Frequently Asked Questions

1.       What can you buy on LFP?

Depending on the growing season, there’s a wide variety of products available for purchase.  Meats, eggs, maple syrup, honey, baked goods, jams and jellies, milk, and cheeses are available year-round.  Produce is abundant during the summer months—and in limited quantities during the winter.  Apples, storage crops (such as carrots, beets, garlic, winter squash, and more), greens, and greenhouse-grown tomatoes may be available throughout the winter months.

2.       How do I pay for my products?

You can pay either through PayPal or with a credit card.  You’ll automatically be redirected to the PayPal site during the checkout process.

3.       I don’t have a PayPal account.  Can I still order from Local Foods Plymouth?

Sure!  You can use a credit card to pay for your purchases.  When you are redirected to the PayPal screen, look for the credit card logos on the left-hand side of the screen, along with a link that says, “Don’t have a PayPal account?”  You can then enter your credit card information.

**If you are using a credit card to pay, be sure to follow ALL of the steps to ensure that your order goes through.  After you enter your card info, you will be prompted to press an orange "Review Order and Continue" button.  Do this, but be sure to press the second orange "Pay Now" button at the bottom of the next screen.**

4.       Where and when do I pick up my order?

Depends on whether the Farmers’ Market is up and running or not.  During the Farmers’ market season (late June –September), all orders are picked up at the Plymouth Community Farmers’ Market at 265 Highland Street (just across the street from the Whole Village) between 3 and 6 pm.  From October through early June, orders are picked up at the UPS Store in downtown Plymouth between 4 and 6 pm.

5.       I’ve just tried to order products, and everything is listed as “sold out.”   What’s going on?

LFP is only "live" for buying Monday afternoon through the end of the day on Tuesday. Feel free to browse products on any day of the week to see what you might expect in subsequent weeks; however, you will find all items to be "sold out." Purchasing is limited in duration so that on Wednesdays we can let our farmers know what has been purchased. On Thursdays, they deliver everything to the Plymouth Farmers Market during the summer and to the UPS Store during the winter.

6.       I’m trying to check out, and I’m being told that my products will be shipped to me.  What should I do?

Don’t worry; your products will be delivered to Plymouth by the farmers and will be available for pick-up at the Farmers’ Market (June-September) or the UPS Store (October-early June).  We are working on streamlining the checkout process to eliminate conflicting information.

7.       How do I know if my order went through?  There are quite a few steps involved.

When you place an order, you should receive two emails: a payment confirmation from PayPal, and an order confirmation from Local Foods Plymouth.  Additionally, your shopping cart should be empty.  If you don’t receive both of these emails, please go through the order process again—be sure to click on the orange “Pay Now” button in PayPal!  (I know…it sounds obvious, but it’s not as evident as it might seem after a few screens!)

8.       All these screens!  What’s the process for ordering through LFP?

We’ve put together an illustrated tutorial for the LFP ordering process.  If you’d like to see how the process works, please return to the LFP home page and click on the “Ordering Process” link at the lower left.

9.       What happens if I’m unsatisfied with a product I buy through LFP?

We are proud of all of the local farmers who participate in LFP.  If, for whatever reason, however, you have a question or concern about any product you receive, please contact the farmer directly.  Contact information for each farm is available in each farmer’s bio.

10.   How can I begin receiving the weekly reminder emails?

We send an email on Monday afternoon each week Local Foods Plymouth is open for buying; the email serves as a reminder and link to the LFP site, and contains product ideas, news and events from the farms, and occasional recipes.  To begin receiving this email, either click on the “Contact Us” link or send an email requesting to be added to the list to localfoodsplymouth@gmail.com.

11.   I’ve signed up to receive the email, but I haven’t gotten one yet.

If you haven’t received a “Buy Local” email within one week (in summer) or two weeks (in winter) of requesting to be added, please check your spam folder.  We send the emails in large batches, and occasionally, spam filters think they know what’s best for you!

12.   I’m a local grower or baker, and I’d like to participate in LFP.  How do I get started?

Simple!  You can either email Melissa at localfoodsplymouth@gmail.com or download an application and information sheet directly from the LFP home page (under the heading “Attention Farmers!”).  Fill out and mail the application (email or snail mail both work equally well!), and we will contact you shortly to discuss products and processes.  If you have photos of your farm and a bio, please include those as well; if not, we can help with that process.

13.   I’d like to start something like LFP in my own town.  What do I do?

Great!  We have developed a model so that this program can be easily replicated in other areas.  Please contact Abby Holm to discuss bringing an online marketplace to your town.  Abby can be reached at abigailholm@gmail.com.
